Yellowstone County Museum – Preserving the Spirit of the Old West
Perched on the rimrocks near Billings Logan International Airport, the Yellowstone County Museum invites visitors to step back in time and explore the history of Montana’s Yellowstone Valley. Housed in a log cabin-style building, the museum is filled with artifacts and stories that span Native American cultures, frontier settlement, ranching traditions, and the arrival of the railroad that connected the region to the rest of the country.

Inside, exhibits showcase intricate Native American beadwork and regalia, pioneer tools, cowboy gear and historic firearms. Visitors can walk through a recreated 19th-century mercantile, see antique wagons and saddles, and explore rare photographs that capture early life in Billings and surrounding communities. Unique displays include an authentic stagecoach, railroad memorabilia and one of the museum’s most famous curiosities, a taxidermy two-headed calf that never fails to capture attention and spark conversation.
Open year-round with free admission, the Yellowstone County Museum blends cultural heritage with fascinating oddities, making it a memorable stop for travelers and locals alike.
